An area woman apparently thought the term self-checkout meant she could help herself to merchandise without paying for it at Walmart.
An officer was at the South Point Walmart investigating another matter when employees alerted them to a shoplifter in action.
Store security said Tori Lindsey was walking through the store, picking out merchandise, removing it from packaging, and concealing it on her person. She then went through the self-checkout but only rang up four items before leaving the store with $800 worth of stuff on her.
The officer also learned the woman was trespassed from all Walmart stores after being caught shoplifting in Ashland. Police took her into custody and charged her with criminal trespass and theft.
Deputies responded to another shoplifter after Walmart loss prevention spotted stuffing a book bag with merchandise and leaving the store without paying. Police learned Jaysen Gilbert already had to open warrants for his arrest. They took him into custody and transported him to the Lawrence County Jail.
