Sheriff’s Deputies had to untangle a complicated web of stories to get to the truth after a homeowner opened fire following a road rage incident.
It all started just before 7 pm when a man called 9-1-1 to report someone had opened fire on his adult daughter. He said she was driving on SR 93 near Lawrence County Road 7C. When officers spoke to the woman, she said a white Tesla going 80 miles an hour flung gravel that damaged her windshield.
She followed the vehicle and located it parked at a Ben Howell Road residence. She said someone in the residence fired three shotgun blasts at her.
When Lawrence County Deputies went to the home of the alleged shooter, he told a different story. He said his daughter called him, saying she was being chased by another vehicle and feared for her life.
When he saw the other driver pull onto his property, he fired his shotgun three times as a warning shot. The man said his daughter had called 9-1-1 at the time to report being followed home by an aggressive driver. The deputy confirmed that the call was placed to 9-1-1.
Officers took statements from everyone involved and said they would come back during daylight hours to photograph the scene.
