Shots Reported on Dorman Drive
Portsmouth Police Officers investigated multiple reports of gunshots in the area of Dorman Drive and North Hill Road.
Just after 12:30 am, a caller reported hearing five to six shots fired in the Dorman Drive area. Less than a minute later, a second caller contacted officers from the 2500 block of 17th Street and said they heard two to three gunshots.
Officers responded to the scene to investigate but could not locate the source of the noise or find evidence of a shooting.
Late-Night Crash Blocks Walnut Street
An early morning crash temporarily closed off part of Walnut Street.
Just after 3:30 am, a caller reported that a white car had slammed into a pole in the 3100 block of Walnut Street.
When Portsmouth Police Officers arrived on the scene, they discovered the crash was actually just over the city line in New Boston.
The New Boston Fire Department blocked off the street, and Portsmouth Officers assisted New Boston Police in handling the accident.
Driver Passes Out at Stop Sign
Portsmouth Police officers responded to a report of a driver passed out a stop sign at Kinneys Lane and Hutchins just after 10 am.
When officers tapped on the window, the woman immediately woke up. Police said she did not seem impaired at all. The woman explained she’d worked four 16-hour shifts in a row and was very tired.
Police advised her to head home and get some rest.
Portsmouth Homeless Crisis
Portsmouth’s ongoing issue with homeless individuals is still keeping officers busy.
Just after 9 am, an employee of US Bank asked officers to please remove multiple homeless people from their lobby. However, there was no one there when officers arrived.
At 2 pm, police spoke to a woman who was sleeping on a bench with her belongings at the Esplanade downtown. An officer advised her to move along.
A few hours later, officers responded to a report of a man lying on the ground on Thomas Avenue. Officers took the man into custody for disorderly conduct.
