The state of Ohio is handing out $7.5 million in security grants to colleges across the state and almost half a million of that is headed to Shawnee State University.
The state says the money can be used to cover expenses for security upgrades like cameras, fencing, lighting, locks, surveillance trailers, radios, and even drones.
Colleges applied for the grant funding by conducting a security assessment and identifying what areas on campus needed security improvement.
The university maintains a 24/7 police and security presence on campus, which includes patrolling campus, responding to alarms, assisting with medical emergencies, crowd control, and criminal investigations.
