Ohio has awarded Scioto County $782,622 in State and Federal grant money. But where will the money go?
Among the local recipients are:
Star, Inc., which provides services for developmentally disabled adults, gets $48,448 for the purchase of replacement vehicles
The Scioto County Board of Commissioners gets $538 000 in Federal and State funds for operating assistance as part of the Rural Transit Program and two separate grants of $98,087 for replacement vehicles, which come from Federal funds.
Some of you may think the area has more pressing problems it should spend the cash on, but grant money is like a gift card. You can only spend it on what it is designated for, and you can only apply for the grants that are available.
The money is part of the $106 million in taxpayer money the Ohio Department of Transportation is spending on grant programs that focus on workforce mobility, senior citizen and special needs transportation, rural transit, and busing.
Governor Mike DeWine said, “This funding will help ensure that transportation is not a barrier to opportunity. We are improving the quality of life for Ohioans who depend on public transportation to access jobs, education, and medical services.”
Money can be used to buy vehicles, vehicle maintenance and to upgrade transit buildings, and to buy new equipment and technology.
