Sue Perkins, 79, wife of Johnny Edwin Perkins, has passed away peacefully and surrounded by her family in her home on Friday June 20, 2025. Janet lived a life of compassion, service, and faith.

Janet was born February 21, 1946, in Ashland, Kentucky and was the only daughter of the late James Arthur and Hazel Conley Crisp. Janet worked alongside her parents at Crisp’s Dairy Treat, where her love of ice cream was passed down through generations.

Janet and Johnny Perkins secretly eloped on March 1, 1964 at the English Hills Baptist Church in Catlettsburg, Kentucky, but their quiet love story was only the beginning of a beautiful marriage of 62 years and a life of service to the church. As a homemaker and

mother to three strong and courageous daughters, Janet (as known by her Ohio community and Judy to her Kentucky community), devoted her spare time to loving all the children and teenagers in the Franklin Furnace area. Janet was dearly loved by her community and served on the youth ministry for over 40 years alongside Johnny.

Janet was a missionary in her own community. She was sensitive to those in need, especially children and teenagers. Over the years, she quietly gave many pairs of shoes, coats, and clothing to those in need, she sponsored youth to go to church camp, cooked many meals for local families, and bought toys for the children in her community for Christmas.

She was a second mother to every child she taught throughout her service as a children’s and teen advisor at Plymouth Heights Church and was an encouraging teacher during her Sunday School classes.

Janet Sue enjoyed candy making, baking, cooking, and ensuring that every holiday was rich with tradition, music, and was always rooted in love. She diligently read her bible every morning and always studied her Nazarene Sunday School lessons. While busy cooking and cleaning, Janet listened to Southern Gospel music and her favorite song was “Look for Me”. Her favorite scripture, which she clung to during difficult seasons in her life, was Psalm 91:

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

I will say of the Lord,

“He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”

Surely, he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. 4

He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge.

His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by three brothers, Raymond Crisp, Don Crisp, and Bob Crisp. She has been survived by her husband Johnny Edwin Perkins of Franklin Furnace, Ohio; her three daughters, Letricia Elaine Covey (Russell) of Perry Park, Kentucky, Cindy Jean Kozel (Chad) of Pickerington, Ohio, and Kelly Denae Daniels (Brian) of Warren, Ohio; six grandchildren, Nicole Elyse Witt, Dalton James Wilson, Kathryn Grace Kozel, Dakota Walker Daniels (Elizabeth), Briley Denae Daniels, and Annabelle
