Two separate crashes on Sunday injured drivers and disrupted city streets, according to the Portsmouth Police Department.
🚗 Crash Into Tree at 5th & Washington
Just after 11:30 a.m., officers and EMS responded to a crash at 5th Street and Washington, where a vehicle had struck a tree.
Police said the male driver appeared to be in the midst of a medical episode at the time of the crash. Medics transported him to the hospital for treatment.
Officers later learned the man had left King’s Daughters Medical Center earlier in the day. At the driver’s request, officers transported him back to KDMC for further evaluation and possible treatment.
🚧 Utility Pole Hit on Pleasant Avenue
About two hours later, officers were called to Pleasant Avenue, where a woman crashed her vehicle into a utility pole, causing it to fall onto a gas line.
The driver reported cuts and scratches. EMS and officers responded to the scene to ensure her safety and assess the situation.
Dispatch notified American Electric Power, and arrangements were made to have the vehicle towed from the area.
No additional injuries were reported in either incident.
