Authorities have identified the man wounded in a high-profile officer-involved shooting as Anthony Kolp, a resident of Kernersville, North Carolina. The incident, which unfolded on the evening of Thursday, April 10, remains under investigation.
Kolp was wanted in connection with a burglary at a local business earlier that same night. Portsmouth Police located the suspect in the Walmart parking lot in New Boston, prompting a foot pursuit. During the chase, Kolp reportedly pointed a firearm at pursuing officers, who fired in response.
Law enforcement later cornered Kolp at 4307 Rhodes Avenue, where the situation escalated into a prolonged standoff. Multiple agencies responded to assist, including Portsmouth PD, New Boston PD, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Scioto County Sheriff’s Office, and Portsmouth Municipal Court Probation.
According to officials, Kolp remained armed and refused to surrender. The Portsmouth SWAT team ultimately located him, at which point Kolp fired shots. SWAT officers returned fire, wounding the suspect.
No officers or bystanders were injured during the confrontation. Kolp remains hospitalized. Authorities say the investigation is ongoing, and more details will be shared as they become available.
