When the calls came in, they were hours apart — but the response was the same: fast, coordinated, and fueled by compassion.
In two separate mental health emergencies near the Scioto County line, local deputies, EMS crews, and neighboring law enforcement came together to save lives and bring help to people in crisis.
Out-of-State Plea Leads to Local Rescue
The first call came from out of state, when a worried relative phoned 911 saying she feared her loved one in Scioto County was about to harm himself.
- Because the man’s location was near the Adams County line, dispatchers immediately looped in Adams County EMS.
- Then, a volunteer EMS crew called in new information: they’d heard the man might have overdosed.
While deputies and EMS spoke with the man’s family, detectives worked to ping his cell phone — narrowing down his location mile by mile.
- A BOLO (Be On the Lookout) alert went out to surrounding agencies.
- Multiple units combed rural roads and wooded areas.
After nearly two hours of searching, deputies located the man using his phone’s GPS signal.
- EMS arrived soon after to check his condition.
- Thankfully, he was stable, and after talking with officers, he declined transport but accepted information on getting help.
👉 Quick coordination and compassion turned a potential tragedy into a second chance.
Armed and Desperate on Gallia Pike
Not long after, another call went out — this time for a man with a weapon threatening to harm himself while driving along Gallia Pike toward Lawrence County.
- Scioto County deputies coordinated with Lawrence County and sent out alerts.
- Lawrence County deputies positioned themselves along U.S. 52, waiting for the truck.
- When the vehicle appeared, deputies performed a safe stop, secured the weapon, and called for an ambulance.
With the immediate danger under control, medics transported the man to the hospital, while Scioto County deputies escorted the ambulance to ensure safety.
