It started as an ordinary afternoon — two tiny Maltese dogs let outside to do their business. But within seconds, it turned into a nightmare when a much larger pit bull charged in, clamped its jaws around one of the little dogs, and shook him like a rag doll.
Deputies say the Maltese’s owners had no choice but to scream for help. By the time the husband rushed outside, the pit bull had Timmy the Maltese by the throat. Only after loud yelling did the bigger dog finally let go. But the drama didn’t end there — it got worse.
The incident unfolded in Proctorville, where deputies were called for both a dog attack and threats of violence. By the time Dep. Adkins arrived, the pit bull was already secured in the back of his cruiser.
The Chaotic Scene 🐾
🐶 The Attack: The brown pit bull grabbed Timmy the Maltese by the throat and shook him violently.
😱 Helpless Owner: The Maltese’s owner could only scream for her husband, unable to pull the bigger dog off.
✋ Holding the Line: The husband grabbed the pit bull by the collar to restrain him until police arrived.
🔫 Threats Escalate: The pit bull’s owner shouted from up the hill: “Let the dog go or I’ll get a gun and shoot you and everyone else!”
🚓 Deputies Step In: Officers responded, seized the pit bull, and later released it back to its owners under strict orders to keep it confined.
👮 Legal Trouble: The pit bull’s owner was arrested for Aggravated Menacing and also cited for Animals Running at Large.
Why Confinement Matters 🚫🐕
This case is a harsh reminder of what happens when pets aren’t properly confined:
⚖️ Criminal Charges: Owners can and will be arrested if their loose dogs threaten people.
💸 Vet Bills: Injuries to other pets can rack up thousands in veterinary costs.
🧑⚖️ Civil Liability: Dog owners can be sued if their pets injure others or damage property.
💔 Emotional Toll: Watching a beloved pet mauled is traumatic — and sometimes deadly.
The Aftermath
Timmy was rushed to the vet for treatment, while the pit bull’s owner spent the night in custody. Deputies left clear orders: keep the dog confined, or face even tougher consequences.
When it comes to pets, the rule is simple: love them, leash them, or lose them to the law.
