Toby Tackett, 69, of McDermott, died Wednesday, June 14, 2023, after a five-year battle with cancer. He has joined the Lord and has been reunited with his parents, William and Stella.
Toby is survived by his wife, Judy Koenig Tackett, whom he married on April 12, 1990, in Greenup, KY; his daughter, Erin (Alex) Hamilton; Toby’s only granddaughter, Lorelei, who brought him so much joy as he watched her grow from a newborn infant into a toddler this past year; and he loved Erin’s stepson, Jaxon as a grandson; his siblings, Eula (Bob) Alexander of Lucasville, Eunice (Tom) Benner of Waverly, David (Carol) Tackett of Wheelersburg, Debbie (Mike) Koenig of Galloway, Terry (Cindy) of McDermott, Dwight (Liz) Tackett of Portsmouth, Anthony (Susan) Tackett of Monroe, Georgia, and Sandy Tackett of Galloway; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Toby retired in 2009 as a Cement Mason and member of Union Local #132 of OPMICA. He was a craftsman at his trade, and many family members, friends, and neighbors benefited from his work. He enjoyed being in the garden and sharing his vegetables, fruits, walnuts, and flowers with friends and family.
Toby was a 1972 graduate of Northwest High School in McDermott, where he played football under Coach Apel. He often stated that Coach Apel was a significant influence in his high school years. Toby was a big fan of the OSU Buckeyes, and he and his brothers never missed an opportunity to get together to watch the Ohio State /Michigan game.
Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 1 pm, Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church on Pond Creek, with Father John Stattmiller officiating. Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the McKinley Funeral Home in Lucasville and an hour prior to the Mass at the church on Wednesday. Burial will follow in Scioto Burial Park in McDermott.
