The President is taking unprecedented action to stop the spread of COVID-19 as a major Hollywood star and his wife test positive for the virus. Speaking from the Oval Office on Wednesday night, he announced a ban on all travel from Europe for the next 30 days starting Friday at midnight. (This ban does not include the UK). He said arrangements would be made to help Americans abroad return home after appropriate health screenings.
This comes as actor Tom Hanks revealed he and his wife Rita Wilson had both tested positive for COVID-19 while visiting Australia. He shared the news on Facebook.
Previously, travel from China and other COVID-19 hotspots. These restrictions also include shipments into the county.
Leaders of the health insurance industry have already agreed to waive all co-payments for COVID-19 treatments. He advised that the elderly population be very careful and that nursing homes suspend all unnecessary visits.
In addition, the President said he would be taking emergency action to provide financial relief to anyone who was sick from the virus, quarantined, or providing care for someone who has the virus. He has also instructed the Small Business Administration to offer loans to small businesses affected by the virus and instructed that tax payments be deferred for certain individuals and businesses affected by the virus. He also called on Congress to provide immediate payroll tax relief.
