Traffic Crackdown on 8th Street – 8 Tickets in 2 Hours
Portsmouth Police Officers conducted a traffic crackdown on Tuesday evening. Their efforts were mostly focused on 8th Street and resulted in 8 tickets issued in less than two hours.
At 6:15 pm, police stopped another vehicle on 8th Street to issue a warning for a moving violation and expired tags. Fifteen minutes later, a vehicle was cited for not having its light on and not having two working headlights.
At 6:48 pm, officers stopped a vehicle in the 400 block of Offnere and cited the driver for an expired tag and not having the headlights on.
Just two minutes later, officers stopped a vehicle near Harmon and 8th and gave the driver a warning for a moving violation.
At 7:01 pm, police warned another driver at 8th and Campbell.
Half an hour later, they warned a driver of a moving violation at 8th and Findlay Street and then stopped a driver at 8:01 to issue yet another warning in the 2200 block of 8th Street.
Then just minutes later, at 8th and Murray Streets, police stopped a driver for having expired tags and driving with a suspended license. Officers impounded the vehicle
Police then appeared to move their efforts to Gallia Street. Just after 8:15 pm, they stopped a vehicle in the 1900 block of Gallia to issue a warning. Then at 8:49 pm, they issued a moving violating warning to a driver in the 2000 block of Grant Street.
Just after 9 pm, they stopped a vehicle in the 2900 block of Gallia and arrested the driver in connection with two open warrants. They impounded the vehicle and took the driver into custody.
Twenty minutes later, they stopped a vehicle at Gallia and Mabert to issue a verbal warning on the car’s equipment.
