A heartbreaking call out of Otway put Scioto County deputies and emergency crews in the difficult position they face far too often: responding to a death in the home.
Just after the report came in, a distressed caller told 911 she had found her uncle unresponsive and believed he was deceased. Officers and EMS crews rushed to the location, with members of the Otway Fire Department arriving first to assess the scene. Sadly, they confirmed that the man had passed away.
Deputies then coordinated with the Scioto County Coroner’s Office, which dispatched a transport team to respectfully take custody of the deceased individual.
Throughout the entire response, officers handled the situation with professionalism, patience, and compassion — providing support to the grieving family while also documenting everything necessary for their report.
This was a sensitive call, and first responders once again proved how critical their calm, steady presence is on some of the community’s hardest days.
