A tragic discovery was made just before 8 p.m. when a 911 caller reported finding a man unresponsive inside a Bertha Avenue home.
The caller told dispatchers that he had been working on the man’s car and went inside to speak with him, only to find him completely unresponsive.
When officers arrived on the scene, they quickly determined the man was deceased. The Scioto County Coroner’s Office was contacted, and arrangements were made to transport the body. Officers also notified Shawnee State Security and took information for a report.
What to Do If You Believe Someone Has Passed Away
Discovering an unresponsive person can be shocking, but taking the right steps is crucial. Here’s what to do:
🔹 Check for Signs of Life – Try speaking to the person, checking for breathing, or feeling for a pulse. Do not attempt CPR unless you’re trained and there are no obvious signs of death.
🔹 Call 911 Immediately – Report the situation calmly and clearly. Provide exact details about the person’s condition and location.
🔹 Do Not Move the Body – If the person has passed, it’s important to leave everything as it is. Moving the body or disturbing the scene could hinder an investigation.
🔹 Follow Dispatcher Instructions – Emergency personnel will guide you on what to do next while help is on the way.
🔹 Stay at the Scene – Wait for first responders to arrive and provide any relevant information about the person’s recent behavior or medical conditions.
The Bottom Line
Situations like this are heartbreaking, but knowing what to do can help authorities respond effectively. If you ever find yourself in this position, remain calm, call for help, and follow instructions.
