Two Big Lots locations in southern Ohio are set to reopen this week as part of the retailer’s ongoing nationwide comeback effort. The stores at 025 Ohio River Rd. in Wheelersburg and 367 County Road 406, Ste B in South Point are scheduled to welcome back customers on Thursday, June 5.
These reopenings are part of Big Lots’ third wave of store launches following a major restructuring and acquisition. In total, 78 Big Lots stores across nine states will reopen this week, bringing the total number of revived locations to nearly 80 in June alone.
The revival comes after a difficult period for Big Lots, which was forced to shut down hundreds of stores due to declining sales, high operational costs, and shifting consumer behaviors. Last December, Variety Wholesalers, a discount retail company, acquired more than 200 Big Lots locations in a deal aimed at breathing new life into the struggling chain.
Since the acquisition, Variety Wholesalers has been working to gradually reopen the shuttered stores under the Big Lots banner. The goal is to return the brand to profitability by refocusing on value-driven products and appealing to bargain-conscious shoppers in smaller markets.
While the Wheelersburg and South Point communities will soon see their Big Lots stores back in business, the Portsmouth Big Lots location is not included in this round of reopenings. It remains unclear if or when that store will be part of future reopening phases.
Big Lots fans in the region can look forward to updated store layouts, expanded product selections, and deep discounts as part of the retailer’s renewed commitment to serving its customer base.
