According to the indictment, Cooley and Castro conspired with two others already charged in the case: Zander Daniels, 18, of New Boston, and Shelby Broughton, 18, of Portsmouth. The group allegedly lured a friend to the Walmart shopping plaza under the pretense of helping buy shoes for someone in need. Instead, the victim was ambushed, stabbed, and left bleeding on the pavement.
The young victim was airlifted to a Columbus hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery.
Scioto County Daily News was first to break the story of the initial arrests. At the time, sources confirmed that multiple juveniles were involved, but we withheld those names until they were officially released by authorities.
Cooley and Castro are scheduled to appear in Scioto County Common Pleas Court on May 30. Broughton and Daniels are due back for pre-trial hearings on June 20.
