Scioto County first responders faced two separate tragedies over the weekend, each ending with a life lost.
The first call came from Otway, where a passerby noticed the door of a residence had been standing open all night. When officers checked inside, they discovered a man deceased. EMS confirmed his passing, and the coroner determined the death appeared to be from natural causes. Deputies contacted the man’s out-of-state relatives, and a local funeral home took custody of the body.
The second incident unfolded in Franklin Furnace, where officers and EMS were dispatched on a report that a woman had been found with a gunshot wound. When medics arrived, the woman was still alive and was rushed to the hospital. Despite their efforts, she later died. A firearm was recovered from the scene, but investigators say the case is not being treated as a crime.
A Heavy Weekend for First Responders
Officials say these back-to-back tragedies underscore the difficult range of calls that local deputies and EMS crews face—from responding to unattended deaths to racing against time to try and save a life.
