A man with a history of domestic violence arrests is behind bars after a brutal Valentine’s Day assault.
According to Scioto County Sheriff David Thoroughman, a bloodied woman with visible injuries showed up at the Sheriff’s Office on Valentine’s Day looking for help.
She told officers her estranged husband held her against her will and brutally assaulted her. She reported being tasered, punched in the face, kicked, choked, and suffered lacerations on her hand.
Detectives sprang into action, collecting evidence as they waited for an ambulance to take the woman to the hospital. After the ambulance transported her to SOMC, medics diagnosed a dislocated shoulder, broken hand, bruises, black eye, and other injuries.
Deputies and detectives headed to a home in Blue Creek and took Matthew Sheppard, 36, into custody. After searching the home, they discovered a Taser and a knife they believe were used in the assault.
Officers took Sheppard into custody on charges of assault and kidnapping. This was his 11th time behind bars at the Scioto County Jail.
He served 30 days on a domestic violence charge back in 2020, and his long record shows multiple arrests for domestic violence and assault charges as well as burglary, probation violation, domestic threats, receiving stolen property, and contempt.
The court set bond at $120,000. The sheriff says the investigation is still ongoing and that anyone with information should contact Detective Sergeant Jodi Conkel at 740-351-1091.
