Danny Vanhoose will not stand trial for the murder of 40-year-old Shurvonne “Chizzy” Byrd.
In an April 1 hearing, Judge Mark Kuhn ruled the 73-year-old man was incompetent to stand trial and ordered him sent to Appalachian Behavioral Healthcare for treatment.
Vanhoose was on parole for discharging a firearm into a habitation or school safety zone at the time of Ms. Byrd’s murder, and there had been multiple calls to his residence in the months leading up to her death where neighbors reported bizarre behavior from Vanhoose.
Back on January 24, Byrd’s mother contacted 9-1-1 and said she’d found her deceased daughter covered in blood on the floor of Danny Vanhoose’s home. Vanhoose was a long-time friend of Byrd’s mother.
Officers contacted the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation to assist them at the crime scene and interviewed witnesses.
The coroner transported Ms. Byrd’s body to Montgomery County for further forensic investigation.
Vanhoose was paroled in August of 2022 for a sentence for attempting to discharge a firearm at a home or school. He also has previous arrests for contempt and multiple DUI charges.
