Newly released video shows the moment Waverly Police caught up with a man who went on a crime spree after being released from prison in Lucasville that morning. Zachary Boone was paroled on charges of robbery and assault and immediately headed to Pike County where he committed two robberies, stole a car, ran over an elderly man, and led police on a chase.
The video shows officers pulling the 24-year-old parolee out of a stolen vehicle after he crashed into a tree. Boone is heard groaning in pain as officers extricate him from the wreck, and they say he appears to have a compound fracture in his leg. “There’s bone sticking out,” one of the officers said.
Officers also tell Boone he could be charged with attempted murder after stealing a man’s phone in the parking lot of Rural King and then running him over. An officer says he witnessed the assault while he was blocking the exit from the parking lot of the store. Boone told police he wasn’t sure what happened to the stolen phone.
Police also tell Boone that he’s headed back to prison after his escapades, though he’ll stop first at the hospital and the county jail on new charges of assault and robbery.
Officers said crashing into a tree was actually a lucky break for Boone, had he not, he would have headed straight over the bank and into the water. “It’s all that saved you from drowning.”
While officers were attending to Boone, they received word of a shooting at Walmart. That incident turned out to be a toddler firing a gun he discovered in his mother’s purse.
Boone faces new charges, including robbery, aggravated robbery, felonious assault, and failure to comply with the signal of an officer.
