Virginia B. Sisco, widow of Richard Freeman Sisco (husband of 48 years), passed away May 25, 2025 at Courtyard Assisted Living in Wheelersburg, OH. A native of New Jersey where she lived most of her life, Virginia was born in Riverside, NJ, and a resident of Salem County from early 1970’s until 2017 when she moved to live with her youngest daughter Jennifer Carpenter in Frankfort, IN. She moved to Courtyard Assisted Living in 2024, close to another daughter Becky Sisco of Minford, OH.
Virginia was an intelligent, independent woman who was not afraid to express her opinions. She was among the first women who graduated from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ. She received both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Animal Husbandry. She managed a flower and gift store in Woodstown NJ (Flowers by Ford) for over 20 years. She and her husband, Richard, raised sheep on their small farm in Mannington Twp (Salem County, NJ). She loved her dogs, a variety of breeds over the years ranging from Great Danes to Welsh Corgis to Golden Retrievers to her beloved Sophie, a rescue found for her by her daughter, Jennifer.
She was a 4-H leader for over 50 years. Serving as the coach for the NJ State Horse Judging team among other 4-H leadership roles. She rode horses well into her 70’s under the mentorship and tutelage of her daughter, Susan Sisco. She enjoyed singing and playing the piano. She sang in Church Choirs throughout her adult life.
She loved and was proud of all her family. Her daughters and sons in law: Karen (Andy) Johnson of Charlottesville, VA, Becky Sisco (Joe Sullivan) of Minford, OH, Susan Sisco (Andy Miller) both deceased of Aiken, SC and Jennifer (Lenny) Carpenter of Frankfort, IN. Her granddaughters and great grandchildren: Emily Johnson, mother of daughters, Eva and Kiya Johnson and Melissa (John) Ellegood mother and father of sons, Emerson and Brooks.
Virginia was also preceded in death by her parents, Milton and Lorena (Nee Sherman) Blankemeyer. Virginia will be laid to rest beside her husband in Salem, New Jersey, a grave side service and burial are planned for this summer.
