There’s been a major development in the brutal New Boston Walmart stabbing case that left a teenager fighting for his life earlier this year. One of the four suspects, Shelby Broughton, has officially pleaded guilty and been found guilty by the court on multiple felony counts.
Court records show that on October 27, 2025, Broughton appeared in Scioto County Common Pleas Court, where she waived her rights, withdrew her previous not-guilty plea, and entered a plea of “guilty” to several serious charges. The following day, the court entered a judgment of guilt.
According to the judgment entry filed on October 29, 2025, Broughton was found guilty of:
Count 6 – Felonious Assault (F2), Ohio Revised Code 2903.11(A)(1)
Count 8 – Kidnapping (F1), 2911.01(A)(2)/(C)(1)
Count 10 – Aggravated Robbery (F1), 2911.01(A)(3)
Count 15 – Conspiracy (F2), 2923.01(A)(1)
Sentencing has been postponed to a later date, and her bond remains continued until then.
The case stems from a January 28 ambush near the New Boston Walmart, where prosecutors say Broughton, along with Zander Daniels, Waylon Cooley, and Trinida Castro, lured a teenage friend to the shopping plaza under false pretenses and then attacked and stabbed him in an attempted robbery. The victim was airlifted to Columbus for emergency surgery.
Broughton’s co-defendants are scheduled to go on trial Monday, facing a long list of charges including attempted aggravated murder, felonious assault, kidnapping, and aggravated robbery.
As this violent case moves toward its conclusion, one thing is clear — the fallout from that January night is still being felt across Scioto County.
