Walter Ronald Kidd, 89, of Xenia, passed away at his home on Monday, June 23, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 6, 1935, in Galloway, the son of the late Charles Raymond and Sarah Anna Preston Kidd.
Walter retired as a Tech Sergeant with the Air Force and is a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal, two Air Force Outstanding Unit Awards, three Army Good Conduct Medals, the National Defense Service Medal, four Air Force Longevity of Service Awards, and the Air Force Good Conduct Medal with Two Oak Leaf Clusters for his service. From 1979 to 2000, Walt worked as a building maintenance clerk with Super Value in Xenia. A former member of the VFW, Walt loved to golf, bowl, fish, and sing karaoke. He also enjoyed crossword puzzles; however, his favorite pastime was reading, especially enjoying Western fiction and fantasy. In 1954, he graduated from the former South High School in Columbus, and he attended Wright State University for three years. He was of the Nazarene faith.
In 1964, Walter married Margaret Alice Hilliard Kidd in Portsmouth, and the couple celebrated 60 years of marriage on October 31, 2024.
Surviving is his beloved wife, Margaret; five daughters, Rebecca Marie (Mark) Bolin of Ashville, Connie Sue (Gregory) Helmuth, Jacqueline Ann (Joseph) Wells, Teresa Lynn Kidd, and Denise Kay Green, all of Xenia; a brother, Paul (Diane) Kidd of Columbus; nine grandchildren, Christina (Dustin) Little, Mark Bolin II, Amanda (Nick) Keller, Samantha (Thomas) Cassanio, Kimber (Bradley) Wildenhaus, Aubrey (Braxton) Easterling, Tara Kidd, James Green, and Erin Green; 17 great-grandchildren, Bradley (Averee) Bolin, Noelle Little, Luke Little, Levi Little, Allison Cassanio, Anthony Cassanio, Abigail Eshellman, Troy Wildenhaus, Emily Eshellman, Madilyn Wildenhaus, Chancelor Cox, Scarlett Cox, Bailey Kidd, Dylan (Brooklyn) Younker, Spencer Younker, Ralph Younker, and James Hull; and a great-great-grandson, Joseph Bolin.
In addition to his parents, Walter was also preceded in death by three brothers, Donald, George and Teddy Kidd; a son-in-law, Terry Green; a grandson, Vernon Younker, Jr.; and a great-grandson, Andrew Keller.
Funeral services will be held at 1 P.M. on Friday, June 27, 2025, at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth with his three sons-in-law officiating. Interment with military rites will be in Scioto Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from noon until the funeral hour on Friday.
