Deputies were told a wanted man was hanging around an apartment where he didn’t belong. Moments later, they spotted him on the stairs — and that’s when the chase turned into something straight out of a sitcom.
According to a report from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched after a resident said a man with multiple warrants had shown up at his apartment and was caught on his home camera system. The caller said he wanted the man removed immediately.
As deputies arrived, the resident flagged them down and said the suspect had just walked out of the building. Officers entered the common stairwell and spotted him coming down the steps with a woman. When deputies called out his name and told him he was under arrest, he responded with, “Oh my god, bro,” before turning around and bolting back up the stairs.
Deputies ordered him to stop, but he ran straight into the very apartment he had come from and slammed the door.
Because the man had an active felony warrant, had fled from lawful arrest, and officers were in continuous pursuit, deputies forced the door open. Inside, they searched the living area before finding him in the last place they expected — seated on the toilet behind a cracked bathroom door.
He immediately complied when ordered to stand and place his hands behind his back.
Deputies confirmed he was wanted on multiple warrants, including:
- Breaking and Entering (indictment)
- Theft / Failure to Appear (bench warrant)
- Adult Parole Authority warrant with full extradition
A search incident to arrest revealed a glass methamphetamine pipe. Field testing produced an instant positive result for meth. Deputies photographed the pipe and submitted it into evidence.
The man was transported to the Lawrence County Jail to be held on his parole warrant. Additional charges were recommended:
- Resisting Arrest
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Body-worn camera footage captured the pursuit, the forced entry, the arrest, and the drug evidence. The case has been forwarded to the prosecutor’s office for further review.
