It was a busy weekend for Portsmouth Police, with officers handling everything from disorderly conduct arrests to reports of armed suspects — and plenty of late-night trouble in between.
🍻 Midnight Mayhem on Kendall Avenue
Just before 1 a.m., witnesses at the Woodbine Apartments on Kendall Avenue called 911 to report a man in a red coat staggering around the parking lot.
Officers arrived to find Jeffrey Carver, who they say was intoxicated and causing a disturbance. He was arrested for disorderly conduct, possession of drug abuse instruments, and failure to appear in court.
Carver is no stranger to local law enforcement — he was arrested in October for disorderly conduct but never showed up to court, leading to a warrant. He’s also been convicted of OVI and multiple drug-related offenses earlier this year.
Carver, who lists his address as homeless, is due back in court on November 20.
🗣️ Man Talking to Himself on 7th Street
Around 5 p.m., a caller reported a man walking down 7th Street yelling at himself.
Officers searched the area but couldn’t locate anyone matching the description.
🔫 Gun Call on Grandview Avenue
At 5:45 p.m., another call came in from Grandview Avenue, where a resident reported a skinny man in a flannel shirt and jeans carrying a gun.
Officers patrolled the neighborhood but didn’t find anyone suspicious.
⛽ Trouble at the Speedway
Just after 1 a.m., police were back in action — this time at the Speedway on Gallia Street.
Clerks said a man in a hoodie was opening merchandise and wandering behind the counter.
Officers arrested , who they say appeared under the influence, and charged him with disorderly conduct.
Gant, who is also listed as homeless, appeared in Portsmouth Municipal Court and was released on his own recognizance pending further hearings.
