What to do if you’ve been ripped off by a roofer
The Ohio Attorney General’s Office is demanding refunds from a roofer it says ripped off homeowners to the tune of over $40,000 after last year’s Memorial Day storms and issuing a warning on how you can protect yourself.
Brandon Valandingham, the owner of Buckeye Storm Solutions, is accused of failing to complete promised repairs and doing a terrible job on the work he did manage to do. Buckeye Storm Solutions was operating mostly in Southwest Ohio.
The Attorney General’s office is demanding that Valandingham give back the money plus pay fines and court costs. They also want him banned from running a business in Ohio until he pays up. Sadly, people like him aren’t an isolated incident. Here’s what the state says you can do to protect yourself.

Before hiring a contractor always check the Ohio AG’s Office and the BBB to see if there are any complaints. Check to make sure the business has a license.
Get written estimates from several contractors. Beware of any deal that’s too good to be true. Also, make sure that any promises made to you are included in a written contract. Handshakes are great, feel free to share one after you sign your contract.
