A Wheelersburg woman made a big mistake that resulted in a grand theft auto. Just before 7:30 am, she contacted officers to say she’d accidentally left the key in her 2022 Lexus, and someone stole it overnight.
However, she was able to use an app to track the car to Mound Street in Portsmouth. Portsmouth Police Officers headed to the 1300 block of Mound and discovered the car.
An officer stood by while the woman headed into town to pick up her vehicle. No arrest was made.
A second Wheelersburg woman also left her keys in her vehicle with predictable results. She contacted the SCSO around 5:30 pm to report her Honda Civic missing.
A family member called about half an hour later to report seeing the vehicle headed toward Portsmouth. A few hours later she called back to tell officers her vehicle might have been repossessed. She said she’d call the bank to check.
