William Andrew Scott, 69
William Andrew Scott, “Andy” 69 of Portsmouth, passed away on Friday, June 4, 2021, at SOMC Hospice surrounded by his family. He was born January 8, 1952, in Portsmouth to the late Carl and Frances Scott. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers; Kenny and Larry Scott, 2 nephews; Michael and Christopher Scott, brother-in-law Bill Burns and sister-in-law, Sue Hale.
Andy retired from the City of Portsmouth, Waterworks Department after 33 years, where he was known as “Pappy”. He was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, receiving the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal. He was also a member of the Orient Lodge 337, IOOF where he was a Past Noble Grand.
Andy is survived by his wife of 48 years, Virginia “Genny” Scott, a daughter Teresa (Chris) Madden, a son, William (Greg Syroney) Scott, 3 grandchildren; Cassidy and Shelby Madden and Jordan Syroney, 4 brothers; Carl (Teresa) Scott, Walter (Ruth) Scott, Chris Scott and Jimmy (Lisa) Scott, 3 sisters; Patty Burns, Barb (Lou) Pontious and Rita (Mike) Adams, 2 sisters-in-law; Joni Scott and Tammy Scott along with several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Thursday, June 10, 2021, at The Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Pastor Randy Schintzius officiating. Interment will be in Scioto Burial Park with military rites by the James Dickey Post 23 American Legion. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday starting at 1:00 PM.
