A troubled homeless woman with a long history of arrests for everything from theft to endangering children, to domestic violence to DUI, who once even locked police out of the Post Office Lobby when they tried to prevent her from camping there was found lying in the middle of Jackson Avenue.
Witnesses contacted PPD just before 8:30 a.m. with a report of a woman lying in the road at Jackson and Boundary. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Amy Thurman, 42.
Officers took her into custody for disorderly conduct and contacted Portsmouth City Service to clear up the shopping cart full of trash left behind by the troubled woman.
Despite numerous arrests and incidents when Ms. Thurman ran into traffic or was discovered unconscious, she is still roaming the streets.
If you’ll recall, last year officers had to remove her from the Post Office lobby multiple times every week. At one point, she tied both doors to the lobby shut with clothing. She was also suspected of taking a table from the patio of a downtown restaurant.
She was arrested back in February and served 162 days in jail for probation violation but was ultimately released back onto the streets.
