Car break-ins continue to be a big problem around Portsmouth with one victim claiming to have lost $6,000 over the long weekend.
Just after 2:30 pm, a caller told officers someone stole her backpack out of a vehicle parked behind Bob Evans on Gay Street the previous night. A deputy contacted her earlier in the day to say they’d found her credit cards near the Scioto County Courthouse. She had already canceled her credit cards and made arrangements to get a new driver’s license.
Just before midnight, a 3rd Street Caller spotted a man and woman walking down the street and “messing” with cars. Officers didn’t see anything suspicious, but a few minutes later, a caller reported seeing someone looking under a vehicle. Police checked again and found nothing suspicious in the area.
An 8th Street caller contacted officers to report someone had taken his wallet from his vehicle. Officers took information for a report.
A 13th Street resident apparently hasn’t been reading our crime reports. She contacted officers to report she’d left her purse and a bag in her vehicle and that someone had broken in and stolen it.
An employee of Bar Benders called officers just before noon to report someone had broken into her vehicle while it was parked on Waller Street and stolen $6,100. Officers took information for a report.
