He asked for something to eat. Minutes later, deputies were sorting out a situation that went well beyond a simple snack.
According to a report from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called after a man allegedly walked into someone else’s home and started making himself a sandwich.
The homeowner told deputies the man showed up asking for food and was told to wait outside while something was prepared. Instead, the man came inside without permission, went into the kitchen, and began going through the refrigerator before making himself a cheese and mayo sandwich.
The homeowner said he didn’t tell him to leave at the time because he wasn’t sure how the situation might escalate, but later requested charges.
Deputies later located the suspect nearby. After being advised of his rights, he told deputies he believed he had been given permission to come inside and make his own sandwich after being handed bread at the door.
Deputies followed up and confirmed the homeowner denied giving permission for entry and stated the man had previously been told to stay off the property.
The suspect was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Lawrence County Jail.
