Family members and deputies teamed up to get to a woman in the nick of time after out-of-state relatives requested a welfare check on a woman they hadn’t heard from in some time.
When officers arrived at the woman’s home and knocked, no one came to the door but heard a dog barking inside. Neighbors confirmed that they hadn’t seen her in a few days.
The woman’s daughter, who lived nearby, told officers she hadn’t spoken to her mother in a few days after an argument but that the woman had left a birthday gift on her porch. She told officers her mother had been suicidal recently and also suffered from a medical condition.
The deputy contacted their supervisor, who headed to the scene. The supervisor attempted to pick the locks of the home with the family’s permission. However, he was only able to get one lock open, and eventually, an officer and the daughter’s boyfriend were able to break the door open.
The daughter headed in first to take control of her mother’s dog and screamed when she found her mother lying on the floor. Officers sent for an ambulance and began to offer emergency first aid to the woman, who they said was having trouble breathing.
Lawrence County EMS arrived on the scene shortly after and began to assist the woman. Officers photographed the area and took information for a report.
EMS transported the woman to the hospital.
