A desperate text message to 911 in the middle of the night set off a tense manhunt and highlighted the relentless efforts of local first responders determined to protect a woman trapped in a nightmare of domestic violence and fear.
It started with a text message plea for help. A woman quietly messaged 911 saying she was being actively assaulted by a man inside a camper on a rural Private Drive. At first, the address she provided didn’t lead officers to the right place — but that didn’t stop them.
🔍 First Responders Hit the Ground Running
Cpl. Mullins and another deputy launched an immediate search, canvassing the area for any sign of the victim or the man she said was attacking her.
Their determination paid off when a woman walking along the road pointed them in the right direction. Deputies arrived at a home where the suspect had allegedly been just minutes earlier — but had fled the scene. However, the woman they’d been searching for was found crying on the porch, visibly shaken.
😔 A Victim Torn Between Fear and Freedom
Initially too afraid to speak out, the woman declined to give a written statement. But deputies patiently encouraged her, letting her know they were worried about her safety and wanted to stop the violence before it got worse.
While speaking with her, officers discovered she had two active warrants and were required to take her into custody. Even then, the team handled the situation with compassion and care.
At the Lawrence County Jail, the woman bravely decided to cooperate. She gave a chilling written statement:
💬 “He hit me over and over, kicked me, and even urinated on me. He told me he was going to kill me. He’s been following me everywhere — I’ve been trying to leave, but he won’t let me.”
She also revealed he had choked her with his hands and made repeated death threats. Her hesitation to speak up sooner stemmed from her fear of retaliation if her abuser found out she was talking to the police.
🛡️ First Responders Never Gave Up
Later that same night, deputies returned to the camper where the assault allegedly occurred, hoping to locate the suspect — but he was gone.
Still, the search continues.
