The drug crisis is no secret in our area, but it still seems shocking when children are involved. Officers and EMS recently responded to a local middle school after a report of an overdose. Here’s what happened.
A middle school child was brought to the nurse’s office showing symptoms of an overdose. The child appeared to be under the influence, was acting strangely, and had an extremely high heart rate. School officials called EMS and asked an officer to stand by in the office until they arrived.
The officer was careful to stay out of sight so as not to agitate the child further. When personnel asked the child if they had smoked a vape at school that day or if they had taken drugs recently, the child admitted to handling meth and expressed fear they might be arrested and that any type of testing might reveal drug use.
The child was transported to the hospital and the officers said they would follow up with CPS and the hospital.
