A domestic violence call turned into an arrest in Wayne Hills after a woman told police her child’s father had attacked her in front of their kids.
“He Beat Me in Front of My Kids”
Just after 3 p.m., Portsmouth Police responded to the Wayne Hills neighborhood after a terrified woman called 911, saying her “baby daddy” had been beating her and was still at her house.
When officers arrived, they found the suspect outside the home and quickly took him into custody.
Arrest and Charges
Police identified the suspect as Derick Campbell, who was booked into the Scioto County Jail on charges of:
- Domestic Violence
- Failure to Appear
Campbell appeared in Portsmouth Municipal Court, where a hearing was set for December 2. Despite the serious allegations, he was released on his own recognizance, meaning he didn’t have to post bond to leave jail.
A History of Trouble
This wasn’t Campbell’s first run-in with the law:
- He was arrested for theft back on October 24.
- On September 26, he was cited for driving with a suspended license.
In both of those cases, he skipped court, which led to warrants being issued for his arrest.
The Bigger Picture
Police say domestic violence calls are among the most dangerous situations officers respond to — especially when children are present.
- 🚨 Always call 911 if you or someone you know is in danger.
- 🧡 Victims can also contact local agencies like The Shawnee Family Health Center or the Southern Ohio Domestic Violence Shelter for help.
👉 For one Wayne Hills family, Halloween week ended in fear — but thanks to quick police response, the violence stopped before anyone else got hurt.
