A fugitive with a rap sheet longer than a CVS receipt is finally behind bars after a dramatic chase through the city.
Dillon Bassett, 27, who claimed to be homeless in his last court appearance, was arrested Sunday on 13 serious charges—including abduction, aggravated burglary, robbery, felonious assault, and domestic violence—following a violent incident on Summit Street.
It all started around 11 AM when a frantic woman dialed 911, claiming Bassett barged into her home and smashed her head against a door. Police arrived swiftly but found no sign of the suspect.
But Bassett was already a wanted man. Court records reveal a long history of violence—he had an active domestic violence warrant from February 3, skipped out on his sentencing for a breaking and entering charge last year, and was previously accused of felonious assault in 2023 (though charges were later dropped pending further investigation).
Determined to bring him in, officers combed the Mound Park area, checking vacant homes until they spotted their man on the run just before 3 PM. When officers took him into custody, things got even crazier—Bassett became combative and started bashing his head against the police cruiser window.
Concerned he may have concussed himself, officers had to divert to SOMC Hospital for medical clearance before hauling him off to Scioto County Jail, where he now sits facing a mountain of charges.
This isn’t Bassett’s first rodeo in court—his rap sheet includes assault, attempted rape, aggravated menacing, and stolen property charges. Now, the big question: Will he walk free again?
His preliminary hearing is set for March 20, where a judge will decide if he gets out on bond. Stay tuned!
