A sharp-eyed caller reported seeing a group of guys trying to jack a car. But here’s the kicker: the caller claimed a New Boston cop had dropped those same guys off earlier in the night!
🔍 What Really Happened?
Portsmouth PD followed up and got confirmation:
- A New Boston officer gave Billy Wright and another man a lift from Cedar Street Church in New Boston to Lawrence Street.
- Later, Wright was allegedly caught red-handed trying to boost a vehicle.
🚔 The Arrest
- Wright was taken into custody for theft of a motor vehicle.
- His buddy? Dropped off at an apartment in New Boston.
- Wright was booked into the Scioto County Jail, appeared in court the next morning, and was released on his own recognizance.
- He’s due back in court for a preliminary hearing on July 31.

Billy Wright also has a pending charge for criminal damaging from April. He’s scheduled for a final pretrial hearing on July 28.
