Bat-wielding burglars attacked a Walnut Street Man and catalytic convertor thieves strike again. We break down the highlights of the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Catalytic Converter Thieves Strike Again
At 11:30 am, Checkered Flag Auto Repair contacted police to report someone cut a hole in their fence and stole catalytic converters from multiple vehicles. Police took information for a report.
Under the Influence
- Police responded to Dunlap Road at noon for a report of a woman on meth fighting with her boyfriend. Officers took her into custody.
- At 12:31 pm, officers assisted the Sheriff’s Office with a report of someone fighting on 30th Street. The jail refused to accept the drunken suspect. Officers were able to locate someone to take responsibility for the man.
- A High Street caller reported an apparently high man outside the home yelling, screaming, and throwing things. The man was last seen in the alley.
- A Hudson House resident reported that her sister’s husband was attempting to fight everyone in the apartment. Somehow during the fracas, a medical alarm got pulled. The man left before the police arrived.
- Officers received a call from a woman in Oregon, who told them her Dorman Drive boyfriend was high on drugs and hiding under a tree armed with boards because he thinks people are after him. Officers were unable to locate the man.
- Police arrested an intoxicated man at the Oasis Convenient mart after they discovered he had an open warrant just before 10 pm.
- A Vinton Avenue caller reported an apparently high shirtless man, holding onto the stop sign at 10:30 pm. Police could not locate him.
Woman Goes Nuts At Apartment Building
A caller reported a woman “going nuts” and throwing furniture off the balcony at Alexandria House at 1:30 pm.
She had calmed down by the time police arrived. They advised her to stay off the balcony if she’s going to cause trouble.
Car Damaged By Open Manhole
A missing manhole cover on Gallia Street damaged a vehicle just before 3:30 pm. The drive was able to pull over into the McDonald’s lot.
An officer managed to put the manhole cover back in place.
Suspicious Vehicle
Just before 5 pm, a 7th Street caller reported that a man had abandoned a vehicle on his property and he feared it may be stolen.
Police said the vehicle did not return as stolen and advised the property owner to have the vehicle towed.
Hey, That’s My Stuff!
The Dollar General on Gallia reported a female shoplifter in a blue backpack. She left before the police arrived.
Walnut Street Man Attacked by Burglars
A Walnut Street man told police two subjects with ball bats broke into his home and beat him up. Police took information for a report.
Hot Pursuit
PPD officers responded to the Super Quik in West Portsmouth to assist a Sheriff’s Deputy in a foot pursuit. The Deputy caught up with the subject at Slab Run.
