The Pike County Sheriff’s Office is investigating what authorities call an “accidental shooting” involving a young child.
According to initial reports from the Sheriff’s Office, the 12-year-old victim suffered grave injuries and was airlifted to a hospital.
Authorities are gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses to determine what led to the shooting and whether or not it was truly an accident.
The results of the investigation will be used to determine if criminal charges need to be filed. Authorities responded to the incident in the 2000 block of Pine Top Road.
Currently, there is no information about the young child’s condition.
