Just hours after being celebrated online as a graduate of a rehabilitation program, a man was found dead early Monday morning in a Portsmouth neighborhood.
Officers and EMTs were called to the area of 14th and Kinney Streets shortly after 2 a.m. after a report of a man wearing a gray T-shirt and red shorts lying in the grass across from the intersection.
Responders searched the area before locating the individual. Medics determined the man was deceased at the scene.
Police requested detectives and the Scioto County Coroner’s Office, which later sent a transport to take custody of the body. Officers also notified the man’s next of kin.
In the hours after the discovery, relatives took to social media searching for answers and asking for help understanding how the man ended up in Portsmouth.
Family members say he had been released earlier that day from a rehabilitation facility in Chesapeake, which had posted online celebrating him as a proud graduate of the program.
According to relatives, someone picked him up from the facility following his release. Family members say they are now trying to determine how he ultimately ended up in Portsmouth just hours later.
Authorities have not yet released the man’s cause of death.
The death remains under investigation.
