Dana LaMonte Messer, 68, of Portsmouth, passed away Monday, October 6, 2025 at SOMC. He was born March 28, 1957 in Portsmouth, a son of Margaret (Fannin) Dulaney and the late Earnest Messer, and was retired from CSX Railroad as a Carman. Dana enjoyed farming, gardening and wood crafting.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Andrea (Smith) Messer; three sons, Monte (Chasity) Messer, Jarod Billiter, Jeremy (Rebecca) Messer; seven grandchildren, Hayleigh (Brenten) Tackett, Cody (Baylee) Messer, Kylea (Austin) Kammer, Alexa (Shelby) Meadows, Malachi Billiter, Landon Messer, Braden Messer; three great grandchildren, Kasen, Apollo, Emory; three sisters, Marlena (Mike) Burns, Tammy Smith, Angel (Scott) Dulaney; two brothers, Scott (Donna) Messer, Shane (Donya) Messer, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one sister, Brenda O’Dell; his step-father, Richard Dulaney, and his step-mother, Brenda Messer.
Funeral services will be conducted at Noon Thursday, October 9, 2025 at Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford with Jason Messer officiating. Burial will be at Smith-Claxon Cemetery in Kentucky.
