What started as a festive 4th of July party nearly turned into a full-blown tragedy — until a group of brave partygoers stepped in to protect three young children from a dangerous situation.
Just after dark, chaos erupted at a holiday gathering when an intoxicated father tried to drive off with his kids in the back of a Ford F-250 — despite repeated pleas for him to stay put and get a safe ride home. What followed was a wild fight, broken windows, and a dramatic crash that knocked out power in the area.
🚫 “He’s Drunk – Don’t Let Him Drive!”
According to multiple witnesses, the dad had been drinking heavily throughout the party. When guests noticed him trying to load the children into his truck, alarm bells went off.
“He was stumbling, screaming, and trying to leave with the kids,” said one witness. “We told him over and over he wasn’t driving anywhere.”
The children’s mother, who admitted she was also too intoxicated to drive, said she tried to intervene but couldn’t stop the escalating scene. At one point, another guest physically pulled the kids from the man’s arms.
“He went crazy,” one partygoer said. “People were punching the windows trying to stop him. Then he jumped in the driver’s seat and floored it.”
💥 Head-On Crash Sparks Chaos
The drunken father tore off in the truck — and slammed head-on into the car of his own father-in-law, who had just arrived to pick up the kids and their mother. The impact sent sparks flying as the truck then struck a utility pole, knocking out power and hitting a parked car.
Witnesses say the man exited the vehicle in a rage, screaming and cursing at bystanders who had tried to stop him.
“He could’ve killed someone — especially those kids,” one guest told deputies. “Thank God we got them out when we did.”
🚔 Deputies Step In
Lawrence County deputies arrived on the scene and took the drunken dad straight to jail. He faces multiple charges and did not have insurance. Authorities praised partygoers for acting fast and keeping the children out of harm’s way.
Officers also noted that the mother was too intoxicated to drive.
