Ida Louise Joseph
Ida Louise “Lou” Joseph, 85, of Portsmouth, passed away Monday, December 7, 2020 at Southern Ohio Medical Center. She was born May 16, 1935 in Portsmouth, a daughter of the late Hansford Harold and Oakie Howard James.
Lou attended the former Paramount Beauty Academy and operated a beauty salon out of her home for many years. She was a devoted mother to her children and loving wife to Roy Lee Joseph, whom she married in Portsmouth on December 4, 1951. Roy preceded her in death December 1, 2020.
Surviving are her children; son, Roy Lee (Linda) Joseph, Jr. of St. Joseph, MO; three daughters, Nancy Louise Rigsby, Karen Lynette Joseph and Cynthia Jean Buffy Southern, all of Portsmouth; four siblings, William James of FL, Norma Jean Vaughn of Princeton, WV, Jackie Evans of Portsmouth and Debbie Maese of Litchfield Park, AZ; five grandchildren, Joshua (Angela) Joseph, Amber (Joshua) Kay, Misty (Michael) Myrice, Chaze Southern and Shamicah Southern; several great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Lou was also preceded in death by six siblings, Harold Victor James, Harry C. James, Wade Edward James, Mary Ann Loper, Virginia Carol Patton and Patsy Jo Gabbard.
Graveside services will be held at 2 P.M. Wednesday at Scioto Burial Park with William Bratt officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth.
