James E. Armstrong, 81, of Russell, KY, passed away Sunday, September 28, 2025, at Ashland Community Hospice in Ashland, KY, surrounded by his family. He was born in Ironton, OH., on March 16, 1944, a son of the late Nelson and Isabelle Gool Armstrong.
Jim was a United States Army Veteran and practiced law in Greenup, KY., for many years.
Left behind to cherish his memory are one son, James Aaron (Maria) Armstrong of Portland, OR; one daughter, Julie Anna Armstrong of Chicago, IL; six grandchildren, Tobias, Rachel, Matthias, Thomas, Luke, and Cruz; his partner, Lee Ann Wireman; along with several other family and friends who will sadly miss him.
Jim graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce from the University of Kentucky in 1966. In 1969, he received a degree of Juris Doctor from the University of Kentucky. Jim was admitted into the Kentucky Bar Association in May 1970 and was a member of the Greenup – Lewis County Bar Association. He served as attorney for the City of Russell for many years.
Funeral services will be 12 P.M. Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore, KY., with Jack Edwards officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be on Wednesday at the funeral home from 10 A.M. until the funeral hour. Burial will be at 10 A.M. on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Northeast in Greenup, KY.
