Jonathan Lee Arthur, 39, of West Portsmouth, Ohio, passed away March 14, 2025, at his workplace, Southern Ohio Premier Recovery in McDermott, Ohio. He had worked there two and a half years as a Residential Aide.
Born October 28, 1985, in Ironton, Ohio, to David Arthur and Mary Sexton Arthur he was the youngest of six children. He had lived in Ironton, Jackson, New Boston, and finally for the past six years settled in West Portsmouth.
For most of his life he struggled with addiction, but for over the past three years he was in Recovery. He spent his last years as a devoted Christian, Father, Son, Significant Other, and friend to all who knew him. He loved God and strived to learn and share God’s Love with others. He was a member of Victory Tabernacle, West Portsmouth, where he participated in many community church events as well as maintenance and upkeep of the church. He always shared his story of Recovery and to those who knew him he was loving, supportive, and encouraging. He knew no stranger.
He loved his children. He is survived by son Dakota J. Tolliver, of Willard, NC, and daughters Eliza J. Arthur, of the home, Madisson L. Arthur, Allison L. Arthur, and Gracie M. Arthur, of Pedro, Ohio, and a special niece, Hannah L. Runyon, of the home.
Jon loved his siblings. He is survived by brother David (Brooke)Arthur, Chesapeake, Virginia, and sisters, Sara (Jesse) Frye, Jackson, Ohio, Kymberly (Keefe) Kimbrough, Greensboro, North Carolina, Marylu (Clyde) Runyon, Portsmouth, Ohio, and Mindy (Seneca King) Arthur, New Boston, Ohio, and a host of loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and longtime friends.
Jon instantly loved his significant other of the past six years, Juliann Walker. Together after a few arduous years, Jon entered Recovery and a path to a successful, peaceful, family life. They made up for many lost years by traveling, attending concerts, parades, sporting events, community events, visiting local attractions, and so much more. He also leaves behind 10 dogs special to him being, Maggie, Kevin, and Millie, 3 cats, Toodles, Bill, and Bob, a rabbit, Thumper, a bearded dragon, Wizard, and 25 chickens Juli collected for Eliza’s FFA and 4H projects.
A celebration of life will be held at SWICK BENTLEY FUNERAL HOME, 1104 Harrisonville Ave, New Boston, Ohio on Saturday, March 22, 2025, with a visitation from 11:00AM to 1:00PM and service immediately after officiated by Bishop Raymond Coleman. A family graveside service will be held afterward at LaGrange Cemetery, Ironton, Ohio. Pallbearers will include David L. Arthur, G. Butch Hammonds, Jody C. Mosley, T. Garett Stamper, Evan M. Stiles, Dakota J. Tolliver, and J. Kade Woods.

Also, Victory Tabernacle will host a fundraiser for funeral expenses and the family on Saturday, March 29, 2025, from 10:00AM to 4:00PM, at 1131 Washington Blvd. North, West Portsmouth, OH 45663. This will include a chili dinner, lemonade stand, bake sale, yard sale, and Easter Egg Raffle.
