Man Says Spectrum Employee Assaulted Him
An unhappy cable customer contacted Portsmouth Police to claim he was assaulted by Spectrum employees when he tried to exchange equipment at their officers.
He claimed a worker became verbally abusive and suggested that they step outside and also threw a box of electronics at him.
However, earlier in the afternoon, an officer responded to a panic alarm at the Spectrum offices where the workers told a different story. They said the man came into the store and became infuriated when he learned he could not exchange his equipment. Employees said he threw the box at the employee.
Police determined that there didn’t appear to be any criminal activity involved.
Man Threatened With Knife On Ritchie Street
Three units responded to a report of a disturbance on Ritchie Street. A witness said a man was holding a knife to another man.
Police arrived to find the pair inside a house in very poor condition. Neither man wanted to press charges. They gathered their belongings and left the scene.
Officers notified Code Enforcement to report the poor living conditions in the home.
About an hour later, a woman wanted an officer to help her retrieve her book bag from the same property. An officer stood by while she picked up the bag. However, she was advised not to come on the property again without permission.
Man Sets Truck on Fire – Flees on Foot
Scioto County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a bizarre incident in West Portsmouth just after 1:30 am.
A woman called the SCSO to report that her nephew set his truck on fire and ran off. The caller said the man suffered from mental issues and had stopped taking his medication. Witnesses said shortly before the fire; the man was very upset and yelling. They were concerned because the man carries a knife.
When a deputy spoke to the man, he said he had no idea what happened to the truck and that it wasn’t registered in his name. He told officers he didn’t want to file a report about the fire.
Man Arrested For Domestic Violence
A Portsmouth man was arrested after a report of a domestic incident on Offnere Street.
A woman said her boyfriend was fighting with her mother. The caller also said there were children present in the house.
Police took a 45-year-old man into custody for domestic violence. He spent two days in jail before being released per the court following state bail guidelines.
