Quick-thinking family members managed to save the life of a man who accidentally shot himself in the leg.
Just after 5 pm officers responded to a report of a 9-1-1 call for help and discovered a man lying on the porch of Township Road 202 home crying in pain in a pool of blood.
There were two women standing about him with blankets and towels and the officer noted a belt had been applied as a tourniquet to the bleeding leg.
The man told officers he was walking in the door of the home while pulling his .22 out of his waistband and managed to shoot himself in the leg. His mom and girlfriend pulled the belt around his leg to stop the bleeding and covered him with a blanket while the girlfriend’s sister called 9-1-1.
EMS workers put the victim in an ambulance while officers collected the gun, shell casings, and other evidence at the scene.
