Abandoned car, stop sign down, and a mystery man at the ER…
Something fishy went down near the train tracks, and now police are trying to piece together the puzzle.
Just before 11:30 p.m., officers were called to the area of Gallia and Clay Streets, where a vehicle was spotted abandoned and smoking near the railroad tracks — with a stop sign knocked clean over.
Fearing the worst, officers contacted Norfolk & Southern to halt all rail traffic, just in case the crash had spilled over onto the tracks. While the smoldering car sat alone in the dark, the driver was nowhere to be found… or so they thought.
Twenty minutes later, staff at Southern Ohio Medical Center called police to say a man had walked into the ER with injuries that looked a whole lot like crash damage.
When officers showed up to chat, the man wasn’t exactly feeling cooperative. He refused to provide a DNA sample or sign the Miranda rights acknowledgment form. Red flags? You bet.
Still, officers collected a blood sample from inside the vehicle, had it hauled off to the impound lot, and are now working to connect the dots.
Who was behind the wheel? What caused the crash? And will this mystery driver face charges? Stay tuned — this case is far from closed.
