A Portsmouth woman previously convicted of child endangering is facing a new felony indictment on another child endangering charge.
The Scioto County grand jury indicted Alexandria Sanders, 29, of Portsmouth, during its latest session.
According to court records, Sanders is charged with endangering children, a fourth-degree felony.
The indictment alleges that on or about March 21, 2026, Sanders was responsible for the care of a child with a mental disability and created a substantial risk to that child’s health or safety by violating a duty of care, protection, or support.
Court records also say the charge is elevated because Sanders was previously convicted of child endangering in Scioto County Common Pleas Court in October 2024.
Sanders appeared in court, where she was found indigent and appointed an attorney.
She entered a not guilty plea and was released on a $20,000 bond.
A pretrial hearing is scheduled for Aug. 26.
Previous Child Endangering Case
SCDN previously reported on Sanders in 2024 after workers at Aldi on Gallia Street reported a small boy alone at the store.
Portsmouth police responded and contacted Children Services. While officers were still at the store, the child’s mother arrived and was taken into custody.
CPS contacted the child’s grandmother, who took custody of the child and the woman’s other children.
Sanders was booked into the Scioto County Jail on a child endangering charge.
Court records showed Sanders had multiple prior arrests on child endangering charges, including two arrests in June of the previous year. In those cases, she pleaded no contest and was sentenced to suspended jail time, court supervision, and ordered to read a parenting book.
For the 2024 case, Sanders pleaded guilty and was sentenced to five years of probation.
After the March 2026 incident, she was arrested but released on bond.
She is also due back in court Aug. 26 for a probation revocation hearing.
The new indictment means prosecutors are moving forward with another felony child endangering case against Sanders.
The charge is an allegation. Sanders is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
